Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Kolkata on Saturday morning following the issuance of a summons on Friday.
The summons directed Abhishek to appear at the CBI office in Nizam Mahal for questioning regarding his involvement in the teacher recruitment scam. Abhishek arrived at Nizam Mahal at 10:58 am.
In response to the situation, reports suggest that Abhishek Banerjee is planning to challenge the Calcutta High Court order that allowed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI to interrogate him in the Kuntal Ghosh letter case.
Prior to his appearance before the CBI, Abhishek returned to Kolkata on Friday night. He had been traveling in West Bengal and was campaigning in Bankura when he received the CBI summon.
In a speech, Abhishek openly challenged the central agency, stating that they should arrest him if there is any evidence of corruption or misconduct against him.
However, on Thursday, the Calcutta High Court dismissed a petition filed by Abhishek Banerjee, in which he sought the withdrawal of the court's previous order allowing investigating agencies like the CBI and ED to interrogate him in the teacher recruitment scam.
The TMC leader's name had emerged in a complaint filed by Kuntal Ghosh, one of the accused in the scam. Ghosh alleged that the central probe agencies were pressurizing him to implicate Abhishek Banerjee in the school scam case.
